The Standard with Ears
Every standard that ever spread had to learn what was accumulating beneath it, and it learned slowly, through folklorists and censors and informers who were few and late. Their fewness was the mercy. This standard hears continuously and at generation one, though it does not hear evenly, and what it declines to listen to turns out to matter as much as what it takes.
